Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what data Ruzuna collects, why, and how it's used. We built Ruzuna to be a place for real people with real taste — not a data-harvesting operation, and this page is meant to actually be readable, not legal filler.

1. Information you give us directly

DataWhy we collect it
Email & passwordAccount creation and login (password is hashed by Supabase Auth — we never see it in plaintext)
Username, display name, bio, avatar/bannerYour public profile
Posts, reviews, ratings, listsCore features you choose to create
Messages you send to supportResponding to your support request

2. Information from connected services

If you choose to connect your Spotify account, we access only the data scopes shown on Spotify's consent screen at the time of connecting (e.g., currently playing track, top tracks/artists, playlists, recently played). This data is:

  • Fetched live and displayed back to you — we don't build a permanent copy of your Spotify listening history on our servers.
  • Stored as an access/refresh token in your browser's local storage, not on a Ruzuna server.
  • Removable at any time by clicking "Disconnect" in the Music tab.

We also pull public metadata (titles, posters, cover art, descriptions) from TMDB, RAWG, and Apple's iTunes Search API to power the Culture browsing pages. This is public catalog data, not personal data about you.

3. Information collected automatically

Like most web apps, basic technical data (IP address, browser type, general timestamps) may be logged by our hosting provider (Netlify) and database provider (Supabase) for security and abuse-prevention purposes. We don't run third-party ad-tracking or sell this data.

4. How we use your information

  • To operate the core features of Ruzuna (feed, vault, lists, reviews, DMs, watch parties).
  • To send you transactional emails (welcome email, support replies, password reset) via Resend.
  • To prevent abuse and keep the platform safe.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties, and we do not use your data to train AI models.

5. Who can see your information

Your profile, posts, reviews, and public lists are visible to other Ruzuna users (and to anyone if your privacy settings are set to public). Private lists, your vault, and direct messages are visible only to you and, for DMs, the people you message.

6. Data retention & deletion

You can delete your account at any time, which removes your profile and associated content from our active database. Email support@ruzuna.com if you'd like help with this or have questions about what's retained.

7. Your choices

  • Edit or delete your posts, reviews, and lists at any time.
  • Disconnect Spotify at any time.
  • Set your profile to private in Settings.
  • Request account deletion by contacting support.

8. Children's privacy

Ruzuna is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Ruzuna evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page.
